Introduction

Remifentanil is an opioid analgesic

Clinical Use

Remifentanil , as one of the more potent opioid agonists is used as a supplement to general anaesthesia. It is rapidly metabolised by non-specific esterases producing a rapid and predictable postoperative awakening, even after long procedures.

  • Marked vagomimetic actions necessitates atropine pre-medication especially in:
    • Small children
    • Elderly
    • Hypovolaemic patients

  • Dependence
  • Hallucinations & Confusion
