Rheumatoid factor

Typically an IgM antibody to the Fc portion of IgG.

Seen in most cases of Rheumatoid arthritis but is also in other connective tissue diseases and in the elderly.

  • Method - A blood test

Tests -

Agglutination

  1. The agglutination of small latex beads coated with antibody
  2. The agglutination of sheep red blood cells coated with rabbit antibodies

Results are given as a titre
