Dose: 50-100mg daily
- Serotonin syndrome
- Bleeding (this risk is much enhanced in those on NSAIDs and aspirin)
- The safety in the pregnancy is not completely understood although studies have shown between 3 to 6% of women use SSRIs during pregnancy so there is a fair amount of epidemiological data. Major malformation does not seem to be induced and use of SSRIs is associated with a significantly higher risk of foetal alcohol syndrome suggesting confounding is likely.. There may be an association between use of fluoxetine or paroxetine during the first trimester of pregnancy and cardiovascular malformations and between citalopram use and neural tube defects
