Indication
Dose
Dose: 50-100mg daily
Side Effects
- Serotonin syndrome
- Bleeding (this risk is much enhanced in those on NSAIDs and aspirin)[1]
- The safety in the pregnancy is not completely understood although studies have shown between 3 to 6% of women use SSRIs during pregnancy so there is a fair amount of epidemiological data. Major malformation does not seem to be induced and use of SSRIs is associated with a significantly higher risk of foetal alcohol syndrome suggesting confounding is likely.[2]. There may be an association between use of fluoxetine or paroxetine during the first trimester of pregnancy and cardiovascular malformations and between citalopram use and neural tube defects[3]
