(NB - known in USA as thimerosal.)
A reasonably rapidly excreted organo-mercury salt used in vaccine manufacture and indeed (historically) in vaccines. There has been quite careful followup of patients exposed to it because of concerns as to its potential toxicity should its mercury content accumulate in the body. An objective evaluation of the evidence base suggests that the mercury content has not caused problems at vaccine exposure levels such as autism or neurodevelopmental delay. Subjectively it follows that the mercury content scare is likely to have harmed more individuals because of failure to uptake safe vaccines, an all too common issue. None the less it is rational to remove the compound where ever possible as there are dangers during manufacture and with disposal.
