Infection by Candida spp., often Candida albicans, a common fungal pathogen in man, usually when immunity or commensal flora disturbance occurs. It is normally a commensal organism in some anatomical sites. Some forms are termed thrush.

Oral candidiasis

Usually a sign of some form of immunosuppression allowing the establishment of biofilms of candida spp.. This is because about 63% of adults have detectable canida spp.[1], as do 44% of healthy children[2]. There is no association with dentures, but age[1] and caries[2] are important.
