Thyroid peroxidase (thyroperoxidase) is coded by the TPO gene at 2p25 and iodinates with coupling of the hormonogenic tyrosines to thyroglobulin. Defects in its genetic processing can cause:
- Graves' disease
- Congenital hypothyroidism
