Uses a tuning fork between 64Hz[1] to 512Hz[2] to test for vibration sense. In diabetic neuropathy assessment is predictive of pathology such as risk of diabetic foot ulcers[3] and a 128Hz fork is usually used.

Has sensitivity problems in the older adult, especially if higher frequency tuning forks used, but so have alternatives[4][5]. High frequency tuning forks are more sensitive in younger patients with nerve injury/regeneration[6].
