Zombies are often portrayed in film and fiction as if they were a form of outbreak or epidemic of infectious disease. This has been used as a form of thought experiment, to provide an example of the mathematical modelling of a disease outbreak.
In civil defence planning measures taken against an outbreak of zombies may turn out to be also useful in fire, flood, plague and other slightly more common disasters. The approach to thinking removes specific preconceptions, probably usefully.
